Liz Phair – Exile In Guyville

Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville

One of my favourites here, following some early praise for her Girly Sound tapes Liz Phair released her debut album on Matador records way back in June 1993 (which means it’s nearly 20 years ago…yikes).

Taking it’s title cue from the Rolling Stones album ‘Exile In Guyville‘ was praised by press and fans alike and is considered a landmark in alternative/indie rock music.  Her lo fi sound and emotionally open lyrics have been influential in shaping some of the acts which followed and are still coming around today, if you’ve not heard the album you should certainly give it a spin.
