It’s big beat elite with The Propellerheads 1998 outing Decksandrumsandrockandroll.
The dynamic duo of Will White and Alex Gifford hit the big time with their mix of large beats, knowing nods to pop culture and big guest collaborators like Shirley Bassey and David Arnold on the Bond theme re-jig of ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.
Shirley cropped up on ‘History Repeating’ which catapulted the pair into the big league, but dance heads will remember more fondly the belting tunes of ‘Take California‘, ‘Echo and Bounce‘ and ‘Bang On‘. Check out Sean Lock’s old 15 Storeys High show for a great usage of that particular tune. ‘Spybreak‘ was then used in the infamous lobby shoot out in the hit film The Matrix and is probably still more relevant than those ‘high tech’ Nokia’s Neo and Co were using.
After the album they did the odd bit over the years with White now part of Orbital man Phil Hartnoll’s live project Long Range.
