From Chicago, Illinois comes Wilco and the cover of their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot features a building familiar to all Chi Town residents and visitors, Marina City on State Street.
Released in 2002, the bands first on Nonesuch (following their messy dismissal from Reprise) and was heralded by many at the time as a masterpiece. Featuring bold musicality as well as the great songwriting fans expected, tracks like ‘I Am Trying To Break Your Heart’ , ‘Radio Cure’, ‘War on War’ and ‘I’m The Man Who Loves You’ soon became staples of the bands live shows.
Marina City complex was completed in1964 and is a mixed use residential and office block, with it’s on site theatre, marina, retail spaces and leisure – it has been acknowledged that it started the beginning of the residential renaissance of American inner cities. These days it’s also the home of the House of Blues venue.
